Urgent COVID-19 Update 19th March 2020

REDDISH VALE HIGH SCHOOL COVID-19 SCHOOL PLANS

As at Thursday 19th March

ALL PARENTS, CARERS & STUDENTS

 Dear Parents and Carers

You will have heard the update from the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Education regarding the closure of schools from Monday. Our school must follow their instructions. Other than in the exceptions below, there will be no formal schooling in our building from Monday 23rd of March. Learning will continue to be provided to enable pupils to study at home.

We understand for your children, especially the students in Year 11, this is a hugely uncertain time and we will continue to support our families.

Until Friday of this week at Reddish Vale High School:

  1. School is open to Years 7, 10 and 11 as it is today.
  2. There will be a Y11 Assembly between 8.35-9.00am this morning in order to reassure pupils and give them the opportunity to talk to us about any concerns. We can explain what we know and how we can help with their planning and futures. It is clear that there will be no GCSE or BTEC Examinations for them to sit as planned this summer, however the long term plan for these qualifications are still unknown.
  3. Yr 8 and 9 teachers will set work for lessons using the online platforms provided by Google Classrooms, GCSE Pod and Show My Homework. Hard copy work packs are also available.

From Monday 23rd March

  1. Children who require additional support, those with an EHCP, are Looked After and In Care and those with an appointed social worker and children of key workers will be able to come to school each day should their parents and carers wish them to do so and considering the most current government guidance regarding social distancing and self-isolation.
  2. Children of key workers eligibility is currently classified as both parents, and one in the case of a single parent family, who work for: Health, NHS, Police, and delivery drivers.  We will be in contact with parents today to establish if they meet this criteria and intend to use the facility to enable us to accommodate demand.
  3. Further details of arrangements during the Easter Holidays will be provided nearer the time.
  4. Such students who attend school from Monday, will do the work set by staff – just as those at home. Our job will be to supervise, help and support any who remain with us after Monday.
  5. Timings of the school day may be reviewed during this period as appropriate. We will keep parents informed of any changes.

Free School Meals from Monday

We await more information from the government on the new national voucher scheme and will advise accordingly so that children in school on FSM and those at home on FSM can have access should this be requested. Further details will follow.

Year 11 and Examinations

Secretary of State has said that the examinations and assessments that go with them for the current Year 11 are postponed.  We are unclear at this stage how qualifications will be awarded however we are expecting pupils to continue with their studies in preparation for every eventuality. We will continue to support your children’s futures working with the local colleges.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you have any concerns whatsoever. Our thoughts and best wishes are with each and every family in our school and in the country and internationally.

We will support each other during this emergency and we know that our families and friends will love and protect each other as best we can.

You will know that we are here for you and will do whatever we can to support you at this time.

Thank you for your continued support.
