Intent
The Physical Education department at Reddish Vale High School aims to encourage pupils to have high aspirations and a lifelong interest in sport. The aim is to provide all pupils with a positive experience within their PE lessons and extra-curricular activities promoting personal growth throughout a range of activities. We strive to ensure that each and every pupil has the opportunity to develop physically, socially and morally within the department’s programmes of study, throughout the years, building on skills through increased confidence and self-esteem. Our schemes of work are specifically designed to promote inclusion so that all abilities can access the curriculum and strive for progress and develop transferable skills throughout the sports physically, emotionally, socially, creatively and cognitively. Pupils will be able to apply these skills into a wide variety of conditioned and competitive situations. Pupils will develop an understanding of the importance for a healthy active lifestyle and the impact this has on wellbeing. Pupils are encouraged to approach Physical Education with a positive attitude and open mind. Students are encouraged to work independently and collaboratively to develop their skillset, developing teamwork, cooperation, communication, creativity, resilience and leadership.
Our Vision for Physical Education at Reddish Vale High School is to:
“To ensure that Physical Education has a positive influence on life choices, health, academic success and well-being, using sport as a vehicle for personal growth; physically, emotionally, socially, cognitively and creatively”
We offer an exciting, inclusive and varied curriculum. In Year 7 and 8 pupils undertake 4 lessons of PE per fortnight, one of these lessons is designated to dance, Year 9 pupils undertake 4 lessons of PE per fortnight and Year 10 and 11 pupils undertake 2 lessons of PE per fortnight. Pupils also have the option to study sport at KS4 through GCSE PE or Cambridge Nationals Sports Studies.

Feedback Policy
The primary purpose of feedback is to move students on with their learning. Students receive feedback on their learning in a number of different ways, both formally and informally.
Formative assessment takes place every lesson in many forms including:
- Low stakes quizzing
- Like marking in lessons
- Questioning
- Peer and self-assessment (green pen)
- Examination style questions
Students are provided with detailed written feedback on longer pieces of written work and key pieces. Next steps marking is implemented, alongside other techniques to promote learning and progress. Students are expected to respond to their feedback and make improvements to their work by acting upon it immediately using purple pen.
