Intent
Our key aim is to engage all students and help them gain a mastery of science to identify and understand the science in the world around them. Through our diverse and challenging curriculum we aspire to equip learners with a high level of retained knowledge and transferable skills that can be applied in the workplace across a range of careers, not only in the field of Science.
We strive to constantly evaluate and evolve our curriculum to ensure that students’ knowledge is built up in a logical and incremental way which is vital for a thorough understanding of complex scientific concepts. This spiral curriculum will continually revisit knowledge across all five years of school, building a student’s retention and ability to apply knowledge to Science in the world around them.
We have recently refined our KS3 and KS4 curriculum and enhanced our assessment methods in both to focus on assessing cumulative knowledge, retention over time and applied experimental skills to gain a better understanding of individual student’s mastery of Science; whilst also identifying detailed targets for student development.

Feedback Policy
The primary purpose of feedback is to move students on with their learning. Students receive feedback on their learning in a number of different ways, both formally and informally.
Formative assessment takes place every lesson in many forms including:
- Low stakes quizzing
- Like marking in lessons
- Questioning
- Peer and self-assessment (green pen)
- Examination style questions
Students are provided with detailed written feedback on longer pieces of written work and key pieces. Next steps marking is implemented, alongside other techniques to promote learning and progress. Students are expected to respond to their feedback and make improvements to their work by acting upon it immediately using purple pen.
