Pupil Premium in 2022/23
The Pupil Premium is a government initiative aimed at providing additional funding to schools in order to help close gaps in achievement between children who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) or have been in the last six years, for 'Looked After’ children (LAC) and other groups of pupils, such as children of service personnel.
Across schools in England, there is strong evidence to suggest that the achievement of pupils in these groups is unacceptably low compared to their peers, and it is the school who is responsible for closing this achievement gap, with the support of the Government, in the form of funding.
Intended Outcomes
At Reddish Vale High School, we target additional support strategies to enable every pupil; regardless of financial or social disadvantage, to be able:
- To raise standards for all pupils, ensuring there is a curriculum that engages, supports and inspires all learners, and that there is high quality of teaching that challenges supports and inspires
- To raise whole school attendance and reduced persistent absentee figures for all pupils, particularly those from a disadvantaged background
- To ensure that the school’s climate for learning reflects the school values as a result of a consistent approach to behaviour management and a culture of high expectations and standards
- To ensure improved assessment practices lead to the sharper identification of pupils requiring intervention
- To ensure that pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs receive effective and sustained support
We carefully ring-fence Pupil Premium funding at Reddish Vale High School, to ensure it is always allocated towards the target group of pupils. We use research evidence, such as the Education Endowment Fund (EEF), combined with our own evidence to establish spending priorities.
It is important to everyone in our school we close the gaps in achievement, whilst at the same time improve the performance of all pupils.
